On September 14th , Reba McEntire , boyfriend Rex Linn, & about 7 other crew members were touring a 100-year-old abandoned building near her home state of Oklahoma (Chockie), when the structure started giving way around them—specifically the staircase  (YIKES!)

Reba was in Atoka, Oklahoma on Tuesday (9-14), which is about 16 miles south of her hometown of Chockie, checking out the old brick building for possible use in an undisclosed future project.

As some members of the party were descending the staircase leading from the second to third floor, it collapsed, and caused the staircase between the second and first floor to collapse as well. One person was injured in the collapse, and was taken to a local hospital in nearby Durant with minor injuries.

The building was currently under renovations, but was believed to be more stable than it was when the crew entered it. The fire department had to be called to rescue Reba and her crew from the respective floors they were stuck on. Ladders were deployed, and the 66-year-old country star scampered out of a 2nd story window before any more of the structure could give way.

Barricades & Brickwalls was such a crazy time in my life when I think back to it now.

I never thought my life would take me to all these amazing places that Barricades & Brickwalls took me to.

It was a crazy time in my personal life, I'd just gotten pregnant with my first child, then throw this album on top of it… But I have beautiful memories of back in that time. I absolutely loved that whole time of my life.

A lot of writing back then was therapy. It still is actually, it's still therapy for me.

The last thing I'm thinking about when I sit in a room and write a song is that another person ever has to actually hear that song. I try to just write because I'm writing and I'll figure out later on what the song is going to do, what the purpose of the song is. But at the time of writing it, it's just all for the sake of the song.

I still love playing all those old songs from Barricades & Brickwalls and The Captain. Both of those records still take up most of my live setlist today. I just love them. I love going back and revisiting all those places.

 The irony of the song 'Not Pretty Enough' is that I sat down and wrote that song from the point of view of feeling like I really didn't belong in this industry.

I felt like it was very superficial and a long way away from what I felt in my heart and the way that I'd been brought up.

I felt like I was never really going to belong, and I felt like I was never going to chase any kind of success in a world that was based around so many superficial things.

I sat down, wrote that song about feeling not pretty enough and feeling all of those things that I say in that song in this industry.

Then, ironically, that's the song that radio picked up and took to number one. That's the song that I guess broke through these barriers and connected with all of these people that I didn't know were feeling the exact same thing as me.

Writer of  Grammy Award-winning “Harper Valley P.T.A.” in 1968 — before showcasing his own vocals and guitar picking as a popular headline entertainer, died on Aug. 20 at his home in Franklin, Tenn. He was 85. 

He was listed among Rolling Stone magazine’s 100 greatest songwriters in a career that spanned five decades.

Mr. Hall wrote 12 songs that reached No. 1 one on Billboard’s country music chart and more than 25 Top 10 songs.  

Mr. Hall had some early success writing songs for country performers such as Dave Dudley, Johnnie Wright and Jimmy C. Newman. His first song to reach No. 1 was Wright’s recording of the war ballad “Hello Vietnam” in 1965. Newman had Top 10 country hits with Mr. Hall’s “D.J. for a Day” (1963) and “Back Pocket Money” (1966), which recounts the story of a man whose wife controls the family purse strings to keep her husband faithful.

 The independent music revolution in both country and in the greater music ecosystem in many was born off the back of vinyl record purchases. Where many mainstream fans only cared enough to stream the latest single, independent fans made that extra financial commitment and connection with their favorite artists by purchasing vinyl copies, or sometimes multiple vinyl copies, or copies they may not even play on a regular basis simply to help support the artist, or bundle packages with a vinyl record and a T-shirt. A vinyl record was an investment in the music of their favorite artists—a physical plaque of their appreciation and loyalty.

But with the continued disruptions in the free flow of this important musical commodity, independent artists are getting squeezed disproportionately, and in many ways than one.

Just like everything else, COVID-19 caused a squeeze in the already-strained vinyl record manufacturing pipeline due to lack of raw materials, manpower, along with the common shipping/distribution issues. But it was a double whammy for vinyl manufacturers since the pandemic also caused a big spike in demand. Music consumers unable to see their favorite artists live and wanting to support them through the pandemic purchased more vinyl record copies than ever, while others got in on the vinyl craze by making initial purchases of turntables and started buying vinyl records as well.

In 2020, demand for vinyl records surged according to the Recording Industry Association of America, or RIAA. Vinyl grew 28.7% by value year-over-year to $626 million. Though it still only accounted for 5.2% of total revenues by value in the music industry, for independent artists and labels, the percentage was much higher. And this wasn’t just the case in the United States, but worldwide. 

 Though vinyl is very much the lifeblood of many smaller artists and labels, big labels can and do receive priority from manufacturers due to their volume buying power. If you’re simply an independent artists or a small or medium label looking to do a vinyl run of 250-500, you have to wait at the very tail end of the line, and may even have others cut in front of you during the manufacturing process. If you’re a major label with an order of 5,000-50,000, you get pushed to the front of the line. Right now the wait time for a short or medium run of vinyl is roughly six months or more, and growing.

Carly Pearce has been in the music business since she was just 16 when she moved to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee to play shows at Dolly Parton's Dollywood.

She experienced many highs and lows, but that didn't stop her!  She kept on going!  Her persistence paid off because she was just inducted into The Grand Ole Opry last night by Trisha Yearwood!

 At the beginning of the show, Pearce was led by Opry  member Jeannie Seely on the stage, who put in a great word for her:

“Carly has all the obvious wonderful traits, but she has that one extra thing, determination. She has the sincerest dedication and the strongest work ethic of anyone I’ve ever known in my life. And she never strayed from her path of wanting to be a member of the Grand Ole Opry.”

Carly then performed her hit song, “I Hope You’re Happy Now,” then sang a duet with Trisha, “How Do I Live.”

Then, Trisha delivered the big news:

“This is a very special place, and when you are invited it’s an invitation to the family. So, with much pride and joy, Carly you are now an official member of the Grand Ole Opry.”

 As she was taking it all in, Carly said this in response: 

 “What makes this family something special to be a part of is that you can have hit records and sell out shows, but all of that can fade and this is something I will have forever. It’s a stage to sing on, a circle to stand in and a forever family. This is super special to me.

All I ever wanted to do was to sing country music. This isn’t another accolade or feather in my cap but a promise that I will do my due diligence to make sure the circle is never broken.”

So congratulations, you love to see hard working country singers get the recognition they deserve.

Carly also recently announced the upcoming release of her album 29: Written In Stone.
